Skirret Seed
Sium sissarium 100+ seeds. A wonderful, perennial root vegetable that also produces sweet, spring greens on established plants.
Originating in East Asia, spreading through Europe, then succumbing to the more easily harvested parsnip, skirret produces creamy-white, sweet, nutty roots that can be cut when plants die back in winter, and crowns replanted.
Seed can be challenging to germinate, we’ve found that soaking prior to sowing can hasten germination, and straitfication - sowing seeds and placing trays outdoors for prolonged cold weather, or mixing with damp seed-raising mix and refrigerating for a few weeks before removing and sowing in very early spring - is also effective.
This season’s seeds supplied, but sadly with no guarantees due to difficulty of germination.
Seeds are all able to be sent anywhere in Tasmania and Victoria, please check with your state Biosecurity if you garden in SA, NSW, ACT, QLD and NT.
